Motorists stuck in a traffic jam after a Spanish melon lorry lost its load helped themselves to the free watery fruits that were splattered along a Swiss motorway.
The accident happened when melons fell from the back of a lorry on the busy A3 near Basle in Switzerland, reports CEN.The road was closed for two hours while firemen cleared away the carnage.
Police turned a blind eye as motorists, caught in the sweltering heat in a three-mile queue, streamed out of their cars to tuck into the melons.
One motorist said: "The police weren't giving them away but they weren't stopping anyone from tucking in either. It certainly sweetened the waiting time a bit."
