Darryl Belk: the man who tried to pay FBI agent $8,000 to whack his girlfriend

Darryl Belk and his girlfriend had a tendency to fight. A lot. It came to a point when she hit him with a hammer -- or so he says. But by the time police arrived, he claims she also hit herself with the hammer. That left police to light him up on domestic charges. Belk wanted to make the charges go away. So he called a friend in California to ask for a reference on a responsible hit man. The California guy apparently thought this was something to avoid, so he called the cops, and the cops brought in the FBI. Belk traveled from his home in Vancouver, Washington to meet the supposed hit man at a hotel near the Portland airport. At first he wanted the fake bad guy to plant a gun and some heroin in her so she'd be discredited into dropping the domestic case against him. But he later changed his mind. "I hate this person," he told the agent. "I wish they were dead. ... Go for the gusto, the fullservice delivery. I want her out. I want her gone." He agreed to pay the hitter $8,000 for whacking his girlfriend, as long as he did it in April while he'd be on a trip to Disneyland, providing him with an alibi. Unfortunately for Belk, undercover cops posing as hit men rarely end up killing their victims. Instead, Belk was arrested and indicted on eight counts over his sordid proposition
